Gooch Brown is a DJ, sound producer and promoter from Lviv. His second alias, Disco Brother, describes the job more precisely: to put disco back on the dancefloor. The motto on his page reads like a manifesto — “Let’s make Disco great again”.
He has been behind the decks since 2005 and plays what he calls open format: R&B, hip-hop, funk, disco and house in one set, much of it from vinyl.
He runs his own label, Baby Let’s Go Disco Records, and co-founded Gonivo Records. Under the same banner comes Gonivo Podcast, a weekly show about electronic and Ukrainian-language music; he has hosted the label’s showcases at the Lviv club Malevich.
The core of his catalogue is edits, and they are not cosmetics applied to a finished song. He shifts the tempo, pulls the bass forward and returns a track to the place Ukrainian pop usually runs away from. The list includes Мій мен by MAMARIKA, Очима by Roxolana, Посміхнулась ти by Nazariy Yaremchuk and Кожний раз by MONATIK.
Beside them stand titles with no Ukrainian connection at all: Da Ya Think I’m Sexy by Rod Stewart with DNCE, Around by the duo Noir & Haze, I Believe in Love Again by Peggy Gou with Lenny Kravitz.
That combination is what makes him rare: he is equally at home in the global disco canon and in Ukrainian pop, which most DJs give a wide berth.
