Kavinsky, the man behind ‘Nightcall’ from the Drive soundtrack, has died in Paris
The body of 50-year-old Vincent Belorgey was found at his Paris home on 28 July. Prosecutors have opened an inquiry into the cause of death, having found nothing suspicious at the scene. He would have turned 51 three days later.
French producer and DJ Kavinsky — real name Vincent Belorgey — has died at the age of 50. His body was found at his Paris home on Tuesday 28 July.

“An inquiry has been opened to determine the origin of the death, no suspicious elements having been discovered at the scene,” the Paris prosecutor’s office said. He would have turned 51 three days later, on 31 July.
A self-taught pianist born in Seine-Saint-Denis, Kavinsky started out in the early 2000s, opening for Daft Punk and performing alongside SebastiAn — then-new names on the French electronic scene. He also acted, notably in Quentin Dupieux’s ‘Steak’.
The turning point was ‘Nightcall’ — the slow, darkened synthwave cut from 2010 that landed on the soundtrack of Drive, starring Ryan Gosling. In 2024 he performed it with Belgian singer Angèle and the band Phoenix at the closing ceremony of the Paris Games.
“With the sudden disappearance of Kavinsky, France loses one of its most singular voices. From Drive to the Paris Olympics, the whole world vibrated to ‘Nightcall’. At once danceable and nostalgic, his music will keep crossing generations and borders,” wrote French culture minister Catherine Pégard.
Tributes also came from David Guetta and Justice’s Gaspard Augé, while the French National Olympic Committee called Kavinsky an emblematic figure of the electronic scene.
