Caravan Palace reheated their own catalogue and pushed the needle from swing towards house — for a whole hour

The band built a continuous 21-slot mix out of their own songs, most of them in new versions. And, by their own admission, could not resist slipping in a few unreleased bits.

Caravan Palace have released ‘Dusty House Mix’ — an hour-long continuous mix assembled from their own catalogue, but mostly in new versions.

It came out on 20 June 2025 on Le Plan Recordings under exclusive licence from Lone Diggers and holds 21 slots. The line-up is recorded in the Apple Music catalogue.

The band explained it themselves, without ceremony: they put together a mix from the catalogue, but with a twist — most of the tracks were “re-spiced and re-heated” to make a whole hour of new-ish music with an extra dash of house. It is, in their words, a whistle-stop tour through the Caravan Palace universe, connecting the dots between past and present.

The main statement concerns the genre. If this is still to be called electro swing, the musicians say, then the needle here leans a little more than usual towards the ‘electro’ side — not least because of the remix work from Shiny Mob, the solo playground of Arnaud from the band.

The tracklist shows it at once: ‘City Cook’ and ‘Supersonics’ in Shiny Mob versions, ‘Moonshine’ read by Bakermat, ‘Fool’ in an Almara mix, ‘Rock It For Me’ in a 2012 remix. Beside them stand their own load-bearing pieces — ‘Lone Digger’, ‘Black Betty’, ‘Clash’ in a VIP version.

There is also something that existed nowhere before: the band admits it could not resist sneaking a few unreleased bits into the mix. The artwork is by NIARK1.

The band appeared in 2008 with an idea that sounded like a joke at the time: take gypsy jazz and 1930s swing and lay them over a club beat. The joke turned out to be a genre.

The band stresses there is no big statement here: it is simply an hour of having fun with their own music, to make you smile, move, and maybe discover something you had missed.
