A promoter finds out he has a ten-year-old son: A24 has released the trailer for its film about nocturnal New York
"Club Kid" is Jordan Firstman's directorial debut, with Firstman himself in the lead. It premiered at Cannes and reaches cinemas on 6 November.
The studio A24 has released the first trailer for Club Kid, a story set in nocturnal New York. Its lead, a club promoter, learns of the existence of a ten-year-old son he never knew he had.
This was reported by Resident Advisor.
The promoter is played by Jordan Firstman, for whom this is also a directorial debut. The film has already premiered at the Cannes Film Festival.
Who else is on screen
Alongside Firstman the cast includes Cara Delevingne, Diego Calva and Kirby Howell-Baptiste. The credits list musicians separately: Shygirl, River Moon, Alaska Riley and Saturn Risin9 — the scene the film is about plays itself in it.
"I went through a breakup, and that partner and I, we partied a lot together… As I kept writing, new things kept unfolding and honestly they keep unfolding. I still learn new things about the film and myself every time I watch it," Firstman told Deadline.
When to watch it
A limited theatrical release begins on 6 November. Before that, "Club Kid" screens at the New York, Toronto and Telluride film festivals.
For Firstman this is a move from one side of the camera to the other: he was previously seen in the shows "I Love LA", "English Teacher" and "Hacks", and in the film "Rotting in the Sun". Now he is both the author and the lead.
Films about clubs are usually shot from the outside, as if visiting somewhere exotic for a single night. Here it is the other way round: the director came out of the scene itself, and the musicians in the credits are not playing parts but themselves. The only question is whether that closeness holds across a whole feature.
As reported earlier by ONE//FM, Kyiv's club scene went through its own change of eras this spring — LIFT, Closer and Vertuha were all said goodbye to across a single weekend.
