The song came out because a challenge demanded it — DOROFEEVA and ‘Japan’

DOROFEEVA has released the single ‘Japan’ together with a video.

The outlet RBC-Ukraine told the story.

The release came only a few months after a live version of the song went viral on TikTok and set off a wave of challenges under a hashtag demanding she put it out. In effect, listeners forced the release.

As on the earlier hit ‘Smak-pechal’, the track was written with Misha Katsurin and Ivan Klymenko.

“We wrote this song in one day. Japan and Antarctica are a metaphor for people who are very far from each other. And the Ross Sea is the coldest sea in the world. That happens in relationships. This song is about exactly that kind of person — close and at the same time distant and cold,” the artist explained.

She also decoded the line about ships: “‘The ships lying at your bottom’ is about past loves, about people, about the traumas hidden deep inside everyone. And the narrator says: ‘I will not be among them.’”

The release had a charitable purpose too — the artist joined a fundraiser by the Serhiy Prytula Foundation.
