Catching Flies returned to the Californian town where his album began — this time with TEED alongside him
The release carries two readings of one theme: a four-minute one with TEED and a string version with The West Green Quartet. It came out on 5 August on Indigo Soul.
Catching Flies has released ‘Return to Ojai’ — a joint piece with the Briton TEED.
It came out on 5 August 2026 on the Indigo Soul label and holds two slots: ‘Return to Ojai’ at 4 minutes 19 seconds with TEED, and ‘Ojai’ at 3 minutes 30 seconds, recorded with the ensemble The West Green Quartet. The line-up is recorded in the Apple Music catalogue.
Ojai, which gave both tracks their name, is a town in Ventura County in southern California: northwest of Los Angeles and east of Santa Barbara, in a valley about sixteen kilometres long.
Behind the abbreviation TEED stands Orlando Tobias Edward Higginbottom — a British producer, DJ and singer-songwriter born in 1986 and based in the United States.
The second version on the release does without him: instead of electronics there are the strings of The West Green Quartet, and the track comes out forty-nine seconds shorter. One theme, given twice, in two different bodies.
Behind the alias Catching Flies stands George King, a Londoner and the grandson of a jazz pianist. He started composing at 15, making hip-hop instrumentals for friends and cutting samples from vinyl bought in charity shops.
One detail about his method: his ‘Samples’ folder holds around forty thousand audio files, from recordings of whales communicating to solo harp records from the 1970s.
As ONE//FM reported earlier, Catching Flies built his album ‘Tides’ out of ebbs and flows, writing it in seaside towns on Mondays.
