Calvin Harris played from a truck — and entered the Guinness World Records
Entry was free, the street had to be shut down, and part of the crowd was overcome by the heat. Official recognition took another seven months to arrive.

Calvin Harris has officially entered Guinness World Records — for the largest audience for a DJ set by a single artist. In São Paulo, 1.6 million people came to hear him.
The record was registered by Guinness World Records.
It did not happen at a festival or in a stadium. On 8 February 2026 the Scot played a free pre-carnival bloco, Bloco Skol, right in the middle of Rua da Consolação — from a trio elétrico, the sound truck that traditionally leads carnival processions in Brazil.
What it looked like
The street had to be closed off. According to Guinness, the temperature climbed to 27 degrees Celsius, and some in the crowd were overcome by the heat and the crush. The set included We Found Love and This Is What You Came For with Rihanna, and One Kiss with Dua Lipa.
More than seven months passed between the show itself and the official recognition: the record was registered only on 20 September 2026, once Guinness had finished its counts and verification.
“Calvin Harris has spent years making music that brings people together, so to see it on this scale is really something. An estimated 1.6 million people came out for his show in São Paulo,” said official Guinness adjudicator Will Munford.
The artist himself found out about the title along with everyone else and reacted in his usual manner — a short post with three exclamation marks.
Curiously, the previous holder of this title simply does not exist in the Guinness register: the organization words the record without naming whose result was beaten. For comparison, the world's biggest New Year's party is still Rio de Janeiro with 2.5 million people — but that is a different category, and not a DJ set.
“I now have a world record for the largest audience for a DJ set by a single artist — and that could only happen in Brazil! It was an absolutely insane day,” wrote Calvin Harris.
Who is Calvin Harris
Calvin Harris is a Scottish producer and DJ, one of the highest-grossing electronic artists in the world. His collaborations with Rihanna, Dua Lipa and others turned dance pop into the language of stadiums, and for years he has topped the lists of the biggest paydays in the profession.
Brazil gave him what neither Vegas nor Ibiza ever could: an audience no venue can hold, because the venue was the street itself. The Brazil national team shirt he played in carried the number “00” and the name “Calvinho”.
