“Turns out I’m not a machine after all”: Purple Disco Machine halts touring over sudden hearing loss
Tino Piontek has lived with tinnitus for 25 years, but never this seriously.
Purple Disco Machine — real name Tino Piontek — has announced a break from touring and cancelled every scheduled show for a month ahead, citing sudden hearing loss and a flare-up of tinnitus.
The artist announced it on his Instagram on 18 June.
What the producer wrote himself
The hearing problems began three weeks before the statement, and the doctors insisted on rest.
“Believe me, this decision was not easy for me,” Piontek wrote. “Not being able to fulfil my commitments is one of the hardest things for me, especially when you know how many of you were planning to come.”
What exactly was cancelled
He has lived with tinnitus for 25 years, but he says a flare-up this severe had never happened before.
“The good news is that it is temporary. The most important thing now is to give my ears the rest they need to recover properly and come back at a hundred per cent. It turns out I am not a machine after all!”
The cancellations include a show in Mexico City and California’s Day Trip Festival. The break runs until mid-July, when his Thursday night residency at Pacha Ibiza begins and carries through the rest of the summer.
Behind the name Purple Disco Machine stands a Dresden native who won a Grammy for best remix in 2023. His sound is disco house with a live groove, and it is the sound he has taken to clubs from Ibiza to Mexico, with his own releases charting on dance lists for years.
As ONE//FM reported earlier, Ukrainian DJ Miss Monique is holding an Ibiza residency for a second year running this season — her night runs in the Club Room at Hï.
