On 16 October alyona alyona released the song and video Kholodnyi doshch ("Cold Rain"). It is a song about military wives — the women who wait, keep the home running, raise the children and live between air-raid alerts and brief phone calls.
The video premiered on alyona alyona's YouTube channel.
The song was written several years ago, and until now the artist had performed it only for the military. Now, as the video description puts it, she wants everyone to hear Kholodnyi doshch.
Who is in the video
The video was directed by Kristina Shykina, with Taras Bodnar as cinematographer and editor and Bohdana Soldatenko as producer. On screen are Olena Dobrianska, prima ballerina of the Odesa National Academic Theatre, and serviceman Yevhen Voronetskyi.
Mixing and mastering were done by Stas Chornyi, with Ivan Klymenko as sound producer. Under the video, the artist left a link to a form people can use to ask for help.
What came before
The artist's biggest stage to date is still Eurovision: in 2024 she and Jerry Heil represented Ukraine with Teresa & Maria, and the duo finished third. The previous video on alyona alyona's channel, My zalyshymos liudmy ("We Will Remain Human"), came out in April. And at the end of August she recorded Divchyna z sela ("Girl from the Village") with TARASYA and DRITA.
Songs that for years were performed first and foremost in front of soldiers form a chapter of their own in the Ukrainian music scene of recent years. We traced how Ukrainian music became the voice of the country over this time in our big review of 35 years of Ukrainian music. Kholodnyi doshch is one more song from that chapter — now for everyone.
