Caravan Palace wrote a track for a game about a detective mouse drawn like a 1930s cartoon
‘Good Mouse’ plays in MOUSE: P.I. For Hire — a shooter with hand-drawn rubber hose animation and a private eye called Jack Pepper. The video was made by BRIKK.
Caravan Palace have released ‘Good Mouse’ — a track written specially for a video game set in the world of hand-drawn 1930s cartoons.
The song runs 2 minutes 31 seconds and came out on 2 April 2026 on Le Plan Recordings under exclusive licence from Lone Diggers. The date is recorded in the Apple Music catalogue.
The game is called MOUSE: P.I. For Hire. Its lead is a private investigator named Jack Pepper, and everything that happens to him is drawn in rubber hose — the same animation technique used for the classic cartoons of the 1930s. In genre terms it is a first-person shooter. The game launched on 16 April 2026, two weeks after the song.
The band made the track together with PlaySide Studios and Fumi Games. The musicians described the process as spontaneous and as a return to basics — by their account the work ran on the energy of the MOUSE universe.
The official video was animated by the BRIKK studio. It is a rare case where the aesthetics of a game and of a band match without any strain: Caravan Palace have spent their whole career working with 1930s jazz and swing, and the game draws exactly those thirties.
The band appeared in 2008 with an idea that sounded like a joke at the time: take gypsy jazz and 1930s swing and lay them over a club beat. The joke turned out to be a genre — electro swing.
The formula was rewritten every time after that: the debut ‘Caravan Palace’ (2008), ‘Panic’ (2012), ‘<I°_°I>’ (2015), ‘Chronologic’ (2019) and ‘Gangbusters Melody Club’ (2024). Recognisability was never lost along the way.
As ONE//FM reported earlier, Caravan Palace reheated their own catalogue into an hour-long house mix.
