Rubber-hose animation of the thirties and a detective named Jack Pepper: Caravan Palace wrote a track for a game about a mouse sleuth
‘Good Mouse’ plays in a game about a mouse working as a private detective.
Caravan Palace have released ‘Good Mouse’ — a track written specially for a video game set in the world of hand-drawn 1930s cartoons.
The Apple Music catalogue records it.
The song runs 2 minutes 31 seconds and came out on 2 April 2026 on Le Plan Recordings under exclusive licence from Lone Diggers.
What the game is
The game is called MOUSE: P.I. For Hire. Its lead is a private investigator named Jack Pepper, and everything that happens to him is drawn in rubber hose — the same animation technique used for the classic cartoons of the 1930s. In genre terms it is a first-person shooter. The game launched on 16 April 2026, two weeks after the song.
The band made the track together with PlaySide Studios and Fumi Games. The musicians described the process as spontaneous and as a return to basics — by their account the work ran on the energy of the MOUSE universe.
Why this band was called in
Fumi Games explained the choice directly.
“Working with Caravan Palace has been incredible. Their iconic style is the perfect pairing for MOUSE: P.I. For Hire, and the reason we reached out to the band so early in our development journey. Our jazz-fuelled adventure needed a track with immediacy, groove and impact, built around a strong rhythmic drive and a sense of raw energy,” said Mateusz Michalak, CEO of Fumi Games.
“Creating the music for MOUSE: P.I. For Hire has been a project like no other! MOUSE is inspired by the big band swing of the 1930s, but designed to dance around players’ moves. I really wanted the music to sound like old movies and also use a catchy theme for the main protagonist, Jack Pepper,” said the game’s composer Patryk Scelina.
The official video was animated by the BRIKK studio. It is a rare case where the aesthetics of a game and of a band match without any strain: Caravan Palace have spent their whole career working with 1930s jazz and swing, and the game draws exactly those thirties.
The band appeared in 2008 with an idea that sounded like a joke at the time: take gypsy jazz and 1930s swing and lay them over a club beat. The joke turned out to be a genre — electro swing.
The formula was rewritten every time after that: the debut ‘Caravan Palace’ (2008), ‘Panic’ (2012), ‘<I°_°I>’ (2015), ‘Chronologic’ (2019) and ‘Gangbusters Melody Club’ (2024). Recognisability was never lost along the way.
As ONE//FM reported earlier, Caravan Palace reheated their own catalogue into an hour-long house mix.
