She kept the song unreleased and waited for an occasion: the singer gave ‘Murakami’ to a Ukrainian romantic comedy
The singer found the track a film rather than an album.
DOROFEEVA has released the track ‘Murakami’ — the official soundtrack to the Ukrainian romantic comedy ‘Pesyky’.

A heroine who reads Murakami
The film was made by FILM.UA Group with support from Novyi Kanal, directed by Oleksii Yesakov and starring Lesia Nikitiuk. Her character Yana, a driven careerist, accidentally brings a curse on herself: every man she becomes involved with turns into a dog. The trial works less as a comic obstacle than as a reason to think seriously about love and responsibility for the first time. Preview screenings of ‘Pesyky’ are set for 27 February, with the wide release on 6 March.
The song rhymes with that plot: its heroine dares to be honest with herself, draws a line and leaves past relationships as memories — like a Murakami book gathering dust on a shelf. The writer is no accident in the film either: Yana loves his prose, and one of his books even appears on screen.
“This song waited for its time — or rather, for its film. It never came out on my album and I was keeping it for some occasion. When I listened back through all my unreleased tracks, I realised ‘Murakami’ was the perfect match,” the artist said.
The film’s side of the choice
From the film’s side the choice was deliberate too.
“We were looking for the perfect song for the finale and considered working with DOROFEEVA from the very start, because her hit ‘Heartbeat’ already played in the teaser,” explained the film’s producer Anna Yelisieieva.
A video arrived on release day: director Indy Hait combined footage of the artist and her musicians with the brightest moments of the film.
