Fifteen years under the name — and only now a debut album: Melé took the title from a Wu-Tang line

Melé — the Liverpool producer and DJ Krissy Peers — has announced his debut album. The fourteen-track Alive On Arrival lands on 25 September via Defected, led by the single "Body Move" with IRAH.

Fifteen years under that name, and no album until now. Peers explained the title with a line from Wu-Tang Clan's "C.R.E.A.M."

"Alive On Arrival draws inspiration from what feels like my entire life as a producer, a DJ and a music fan, bringing together everything I love about house, hip-hop, UK music, soulful R&B and wider global sounds… The name comes from Wu-Tang Clan's C.R.E.A.M., which felt fitting to where I'm at in my musical journey. It's been 15 years as Melé, but I'm still alive and feel like I've got so much more to give," the artist said.

Three cities behind the record

The album was made in London, Miami and Liverpool — three places Peers calls close to his heart. As sonic reference points he names Jungle, The Neptunes, Gorillaz and Masters At Work.

The label itself describes the record as the arrival of an artist operating with complete creative clarity, bringing the sounds, collaborators and influences that shaped his path into one cohesive body of work. For a debut made fifteen years into a career, that reads more like a summing-up than a start.

What is already playing

The single "Body Move" arrived on the same day as the announcement, with vocalist IRAH. It is the formula Melé has always worked with: a house frame with voices and rhythms from other genres built into it.

As reported earlier by ONE//FM, Jonas Blue also returned to Defected this summer, following up a track that had gathered two hundred million streams.
