A song about not being the one at the wheel: Disclosure opened the year with a single sung by Howard Lawrence himself

Disclosure have released a new single, ‘The Sun Comes Up Tremendous’ — the first release of 2026 from brothers Howard and Guy Lawrence.

For the first time since ‘Alchemy’

Howard took the lead vocal this time — for the first time since the 2023 album ‘Alchemy’. For a duo that usually builds tracks around guest voices, that is a noticeable move. The single came out on Disorder/Capitol Records.

The track is a slow burner: it opens with sweeping cinematic melodies and textures, then a bass drop takes things straight to the dancefloor.

What the brothers themselves say

The duo wrote about the song in a post of their own.

“Songs that we’re this proud of come to us rarely, but when they do, it always feels the same — like they’ve always been here, like an old friend you haven’t seen for a while.”

“It’s about a reckoning, or a humbling; it’s about when life reminds you that you’re not the one at the wheel.”

The video was directed by Colt Grice and Moldyroom. In it the brothers perform the track against a stunning mountainside backdrop — no plot, no sets, just landscape and two musicians.

The release arrived exactly as the duo prepared to embark on a North American tour, which includes sets at both weekends of Coachella.

‘Alchemy’ was the duo’s fourth studio album, after ‘Settle’ (2013), ‘Caracal’ (2015) and ‘Energy’ (2020). Since then the brothers have mostly come out with singles and collaborations.

The last few years have been dense for Disclosure: joint tracks with Pa Salieu, Anderson .Paak and Chris Lake, and late last year a remix of Faithless’ ‘Insomnia’ for the song’s thirtieth anniversary.
